What is the PNG to JPG Converter?

A PNG to JPG converter re-encodes a PNG image as a JPEG file at a chosen quality level. JPEGs are usually 60 to 80% smaller than the equivalent PNG for photographic content, which is why they dominate the web. The trade-off: JPEG is lossy and doesn't support transparency, so any transparent pixels get filled with a solid color.

How to use the PNG to JPG Converter

  1. 1

    Drop in your PNG

Drag a .png file onto the upload area, or click to browse. The preview and original size show immediately.

  2. 2

    Pick a JPG quality

Use the slider on the right. 85% (default) is a safe balance between size and visible quality. Drop to 60 to 70% for max savings on photos.

  3. 3

    Convert

Click Convert to JPG. The Canvas API fills transparent areas with white, then re-encodes the image as a JPEG at your chosen quality.

  4. 4

    Download the JPG

Download JPG saves the file with the same name and a .jpg extension. The new file size shows so you can compare against the PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert PNG to JPG?

File size. A typical photographic PNG runs 5 to 10 MB; the same image as JPG at 85% quality lands at 500 KB to 1.5 MB. For web pages, email attachments, and storage, that's a meaningful cut. Trade-off is loss of transparency and slight compression artifacts.

Can I control the quality?

Yes. The quality slider runs 1 to 100%. 85% is the default and safe for most photos. 60 to 70% maximizes compression with mild visible artifacts. Below 40% you'll start to see blocking on smooth gradients.

What happens to transparency?

JPEG doesn't support an alpha channel, so transparent pixels get filled with solid white before encoding. If you need transparency, keep the source as PNG, or convert to WebP instead.
