Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the countdown timer?
Pick one of the 11 preset durations (1 to 60 minutes) or enter a custom MM:SS in the Quick Start panel. Hit play (or press Space) to start. The progress ring animates around the time display, and the page title shows the countdown so you can find it from another tab.
What alarm sounds are available?
Four, all generated in-browser with the Web Audio API: Digital (a triple beep at 700 Hz), Bell (a 440 Hz tone with exponential decay), Chime (a three-note ascending C-E-G chord), Soft (a low 300 Hz fade). Click the Alarm button to switch and preview. Your choice persists across visits via localStorage.
Can I use it as a stopwatch?
Yes. Toggle the Stopwatch tab at the top to switch to count-up mode. Press play; it counts up from zero with no upper limit. The progress ring rotates once per minute as a visual pulse, but there's no end alarm in stopwatch mode.
Does it work in fullscreen?
Yes. Press F or click the Fullscreen button to take the timer over the entire screen. The About section and other clutter hide automatically. Press F or Escape to exit. Useful for timed presentations, classroom exam timers, or kitchen displays.
What happens when the timer reaches zero?
Three things at once: the alarm sound plays, a browser notification fires (if you granted permission on the first visit), and the time display starts pulsing red. The timer also flips into overtime mode and counts upward in red, so you can see how long since it ended without resetting.
Can I add time while the timer is running?
Yes. Press + (the keyboard plus key) or click the + button next to the play control to add 60 seconds. This works only while the timer is running. When paused or idle, you can subtract a minute with - to make a quick adjustment.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
Five: Space (play/pause), R (reset), F (fullscreen), + (add 1 minute while running), - (subtract 1 minute when paused). Shortcuts work as long as a text input isn't focused.
Are ambient sounds available?
Four: Rain (filtered brown noise), Wind (pink noise), White Noise, Brown Noise. All generated live in the browser via the Web Audio API. Volume is independent of the alarm and persists while the timer is paused or running.
